Bible Reading Family Challenge

My mom always comes up with fun bible challenges for my family each year. A few years ago our whole family attempted to read through the bible. I think about 3 of us finished the whole thing and the others came very close. This year my family is doing the

John Newton Challenge 2009
52 Week Bible Reading Plan

---->>>> Check it out here!  <<<<---

I will admit that the first 2 weeks i was slow to get started even though each week's suggested verses only takes about 15 minutes.

By the end of the year you will read through Matthew, Proverbs and the first 45 chapters of Psalms.

Which when you look at it is a very small amount of the bible, but what a great way to challenge yourself to stay in the word. Not a huge overwhelming list of how to get through the bible in one year, but a way to be able to take an intense look at 3 books of the Bible.

Normally when i go to read a psalms i will just think of a random number and then read that. The first week had us read psalms 1... which normally i wouldn't of just picked for a random reading in the past and through the first two verses i already felt of it as a challenge to my life:

Book One

The Way of the Righteous and the Wicked

1:1 Blessed is the man
who walks not in the counsel of the wicked,
nor stands in the way of sinners,
nor sits in the seat of scoffers;
2 but his delight is in the law of the Lord,
and on his law he meditates day and night.

3 He is like a tree
planted by streams of water
that yields its fruit in its season,
and its leaf does not wither.
In all that he does, he prospers.
4 The wicked are not so,
but are like chaff that the wind drives away.

5 Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,
nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous;
6 for the Lord knows the way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked will perish.

Psalm 1(ESV)

The first two verses are really a challenge to me...

1:1 Blessed is the man
who walks not in the counsel of the wicked,
nor stands in the way of sinners,
nor sits in the seat of scoffers;
2 but his delight is in the law of the Lord,
and on his law he meditates day and night.

Anyways. If you have been searching for a way to stay in the word this new year ( even if it is a little after the beginning) check out this easy challenge and see if it would work for you.

I just finished week 3! Yeah, 1 day ahead of schedule! Proverbs 3 was my most inspired reading! Mallory and I have been reading together - but I wanted to read it on my own too....so I could listen a bit more intently to the Spirit's words for me.
